Lots of new Trainees

There isn’t much we can do to help you with the heat, but what we can do is keep you informed. As usual, July is the busiest season for IAESTEA Croatia. We’re expecting 11 new trainees very soon. They are Ewa (Poland), Shosuke (Japan), David (Hungary), Mylde (Norway), Salvador (Spain), Konrad (Poland) , Dimitar & Dimitar (Macedonia), Tamar (Spain), Khai (USA) and Ben (UK).
At the moment there are 13 trainees in Zagreb. For those of you coming to Croatia in the next week or so you’ll meet:  Nazli, Andrew, Anton, Jenny, Manuel, Zoran, Marcin, Sebastian, Frode, Ajay, Kalle, Liliana & Justyna.
Hope to see you soon  Cheer!

Cest is d'Best

The Kings of the Street (Kraljevi ulice) announced the beginning of the 11th street festival Cest is d'Best. An impressive number of 400 artists and entertainers will fill the streets of Zagreb from Monday till Saturday (May 11-17). The guests of the festival come from around the world, offering their concerts, street performances, shows and art installations.
Answering a reporter's question on where this year's performers are from, Hadži from Kings of the Street joked "It's easier to name the countries from where we don't have performers! We guarantee a good time on 6 stages: Ban Jelačić square, Flower square (Cvjetni trg), park Zrinjevac at Charlie's, at Mali Medo pub (Tkalčićeva Street) and Stross promenade."

A few anouncements

Since the last report a few things things have changed.

First of all, the trainees now in Zagreb are Diana, Jennifer, Khai, Manuel, Anton and Kalle. We're expecting some new ones pretty soon: Liliana Andrea (Argentina), Ajay (India) and David (Hungary). We know our old trainees will make them feel right at home, and we’ll do our best to keep them entertained and informed.

Next important thing is that we’re starting regular meetings for our trainees.

And last but not least: It’s Jennifer’s birthday!

Welcome

It's time for a first update about trainees coming to Croatia. So far Andrea, Diana and Zoran have had the entire city to themselves. Now they are joined by Kalle from Finland and Manuel from Germany. Next week we’re expecting Ana Maria from Colombia and Anton from the UK. And this is just the beginning…
As new trainees arrive, we will organize weekly meetings for them and IAESTE Croatia members. We usually meet in a bar for a drink, get to know new arrivals and answer all questions you might have. It’s completely casual and usually a lot of fun. When more people arrive there will also be International evenings at the dorm. You’ll be able to taste traditional cooking from the countries of our trainees. Last year we had some great meals and interesting drinks Smiling Our Summer reception team will tell you all about it.

Here we go again

Hello everybody!
The new season for internships has officially begun and we’re back at work!
All through the high season (i.e. the summer) you can expect up to 30 students at the same time, which will provide everyone with a unique intercultural experience. New friendships, new sights, new food and customs are only some of the highlights of coming to Croatia through IAESTE.
At our site you can find useful information for organizing your stay, read experiences of last year’s interns and look at their photos. We’ll keep you informed as to what’s going on in the city you’re in, festivals, concerts and short trips we always organize. You can also expect GETTs (Get Togethers), traditional events organized every summer by every IAESTE Local committee.

Codex Atlanticus

From the 65 trainees that we've had this year in Zagreb, only eight are still here - Agnieszka, Dominika, Georgette, Nadin, Samuel, Rodrigo, Noriaki and Vjeko. In the past few weeks, Leila, Gabriela, Jenny, Tomasz, Stefan and Steve have left Zagreb.

To fill one of these gloomy afternoons, we suggest visiting an exhibition at the Museum of Arts and Crafts „Leonardo daVinci: Codex Altanticus“.
The Codex Atlanticus presents the visionary work of Leonardo da Vinci, renaissance artist, scientist and innovator. You have a chance to see over 60 original drawings and numerous models of his machines. High-tech novelties, such as a Ferrari engine and a helicopter motor are displayed next to da Vinci's work to show how strong an impact his ideas have today, five centuries later.

Gedas: My experience

Gediminas Venckus from Lithuania spent a part of his summer in Zagreb. He decided to share his experiences with future IAESTE trainees, to encourage them to come to Croatia and have the summer of their lives.

My employer was ZGOS d.o.o., a state- owned company responsible for municipal waste utilization in the City of Zagreb. My work in ZGOS was focused on acquisition with rehabilitation project of the Jakusevec landfill. Work area varied extensively, from civil engineering, to analysis of economical figures of the project.

Capoeira

Filihos de Bimba invite you to visit our FREE WORKSHOP this Saturday and Sunday (2.& 3.12.2006) from 3-9 pm at the dorm Cvjetno.
Capoeira is an afro-brazilian combat skill developed by the African slaves in Brazil. It is characterized by acrobatic movements and it's always played with music.
Find out how it's played, learn the basic moves of defense and attack. Feel the spirit of Brazil and the energy that this skill possesses!

New Circus Festival

If you want to make a childhood dream come true, you’re in luck! That is, if your childhood dream was to learn juggling, clowning or acrobatics. The 2nd New Circus Festival started on Monday and you’re all welcome to visit performances, workshops, lectures and of course – a party at the end (Saturday).

New Circus Festival is being held from 20th-25th of November at the SC, the Academy of Drama Arts and at the Jedinstvo Factory.

The Festival’s conceptual frame is a 'relativity of barriers'. This year's festival brings performances, workshops and theoreticians from France, Finland, Portugal, the Netherlands, Switzerland Australia, Germany... and also three Croatian premiers will be performed on this festival - Tiger Theatre, Hram, Grupo Amazonas.

IAESTE Day

IAESTE Day, an event that presents IAESTE to the public, will be held on the 21st and 22nd of November in Zagreb and Osijek. IAESTE Day is a formal event organized by Local Committees for the companies and institutions that they cooperate with. It's a chance to introduce them to the work and results of IAESTE and most of all - thank them for their support.

Stand-up comedy

A few more trainees - Geads and Fernando have left Zagreb and Rafael & Christian are going to this week. All the trainees that are sill here are invited to a humanitarian evening of Croatian stand-up comedy.

On Sunday the 12th, there will be a performance IN ENGLISH. It will be held at the Hemingway bar Tuškanac 1, starting at 9pm. The show has a humanitarian note - funds raised from the tickets go to DebRA (Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association).

One new trainee

Well, it’s almost the end of this year’s arrival season. One student came this weekend; her name is Gabriela, and she’s from Brasil.

This week some more trainees are leaving – they are Ewelina&Ewelina and Tiago. This leaves a total of 21 trainees still here.

Enjoy this good weather and use it while it lasts. For examle, go to Sljeme. It’s the perfect time for picking chestnuts and Sljeme is beatiful this time of the year. Actually, Sljeme is always beautiful, so if you have good company this is a great place to spend your free time.
